Mac OS Devices
To use VoiceOver on a Mac OS device, hold down the Control and Option keys and press any other key that corresponds with that VoiceOver function. The Control and Option keys are referred to as the VoiceOver keys, or the VO keys for short.
For example, to navigate anywhere on the desktop, hold down the VO keys and press any one of the arrow keys. This will move the VoiceOver focus in the direction corresponding with the arrow key you pressed.
iPad or iPhone
The iPad and iPhone have a set of gestures to allow navigation on its touch screen. These gestures change when VoiceOver is turned on.
When VoiceOver is turned on, you can touch a single finger anywhere on the screen and VoiceOver will tell you what you are touching on the screen. You can then take your finger off the screen and touch anywhere else on the screen to find out what is there. You can also drag your finger around the screen and VoiceOver will tell you what is on the screen as you drag your finger.
You can also swipe with one finger left or right across the screen to move from one object to the next. This allows you to move around the screen with greater control.
Once you have selected an object by touching it with one finger, you can then activate that object by double tapping with one finger. When VoiceOver is turn off you only need to tap an object once with one finger to activate it. This is problematic for people with low or no vision because they do not know what object they are touching. VoiceOver allows the person to find what they want to activate first before double tapping to activate.
Single tapping with four fingers either at the top of the screen will access the status bar and single tapping with four fingers at the bottom of the screen will access the dock.
